A Spiritual Reflection for you….
Every Month, Adrianna Ernest provides 2 reflections and prayers on saints whose feast days are within that month.
Her Reflection on  St. John Chrysostom (Feast Day Sept 13):
Reflection:Â
How well do we know and recite scripture? In the busyness of life, we sometimes can put other things ahead of our prayer lives. St. John Chrysostom emphasizes the importance of reading and memorizing scripture. By fixating on the word of God, we are arming ourselves as we face daily challenges of life.
God’s word is the truth. If we deepen our connection to knowing and loving scripture, we will have the tools to fight against sin and falsehoods. Society has veered far from what is good and moral. It is easy to become entranced by the ways of the world. However, we have to be rooted in faith so we can speak the truth to ourselves, our neighbors, and those who don’t know Christ.
Let’s remember to take time to read scripture (daily if possible).* More than that, let us take the time to memorize verses. When we are in need, we will be able to quote the words of scripture. When we are going through a difficult trial, we will have words to console us. When we are in a joyous season, we can praise God with scripture. In all moments, may we pray with God’s word.
Â
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for giving sacred scripture to Your people. It is such a gift to have Your word available to us at all times. May I take the time to pray with scripture. May the words console, heal, and direct me as I go about my days. May I focus on You above all. I love You! Amen.
