A Spiritual Reflection for you….
Every Month, Adrianna Ernest provides 2 reflections and prayers on saints whose feast days are within that month.
"Begin again.”- St. Teresa of Avila
Reflection:
St. Teresa of Avila was a powerhouse of a saint. She is known for her beautiful writings and is now declared a doctor of the Church. There are currently only four female doctors of the Church, and she is one of them. She is a big deal.
It is said that St. Teresa used to stand outside of the confessional, and once her sisters left the confessional she would tell them, “Begin again”. She would look them in the eye and hold onto their shoulders and speak directly to them.
When we leave the confessional, we have the opportunity to start new, start fresh. We have so much left ahead of us. We can, with God’s grace and direction, “begin again,” as St. Teresa declared.
We are all human and make mistakes. Some mistakes are larger than others, but we serve a God who is all-knowing, merciful, and forgiving. He does not want us to stay put in a place of sadness or despair. Rather, He embraces His son or daughter and welcomes them to His table.
Let us remember the parable of the prodigal son. After your trial, your remorse, and your period of forgiveness, there will be much rejoicing in your conversion of heart.
With this in mind, may our imperfections draw us ever closer to the loving arms of our Father.
What will your new beginning bring? How can you serve the Lord and His people in this new season?
Prayer:
Dear God, I sometimes falter in my steps on the road to holiness. I know that You are a merciful Father, always ready to forgive. You desire my conversion of heart. May I always run to You and seek Your guidance in confession. May I begin again with a transformed heart. I love You Jesus. Amen.
